I never had a problem printing from my phone until the latest update, now it’s telling me i can only send to an air print machine? What’s up with that? Work around?

No iPhone has ever been able to print to a printer that doesn’t support AirPrint, unless you have an app on your computer such as Printopia that mimics an AirPrint device.
Did you follow the instructions in the link at the top of the page? Did you try rebooting your printer, router, and phone? Is your printer an AirPrint compatible printer?
I don’t have air print, never had problems using old printer until this update.
