Brother J4655 Inkjet is also compatible. Nice thing about it, it comes with a year of ink in the box at 150 pages a month, and the ink does not mount itself on the carriage. It is managed in its own separate compartment. I do have to use the Brother iPrint & Scan software, as it works better than the drivers on Apple's Printers System Preferences.

I would avoid HP since HP has a tendency to change the behavior of their printers in a negative way such as not allowing the use of third party ink cartridges. I've even seen a few reports where HP printers won't work at all if one of the colors runs out (no way to force it even if you just want a monochrome printout). This is from someone who used & recommended HP printers for 20 years.
The last time I recommended an inkjet for a family member I recommended a Canon even though I tried to dissuade them from getting any inkjet printers since they all use up a lot of ink just to keep the jets clear. Inkjets are Ok if you are using them all the time.
If you don't need color, then just get a Brother Laserjet printer. I've never used a Brother inkjet, but will need to consider next time someone asks me for a recommendation.
Just make sure whatever printer you choose is AirPrint compatible so that you don't need to use any third party printer drivers. This will allow you to use the printer with any OS. There is nothing worse than having the manufacturer stop upgrading drivers when a new OS arrives.
I double down on HWTech's recommendation that the printer have "AirPrint" support. That eliminates the need to have custom vendor drivers, and then wake up one day and find the vendor no longer supports your printer.
My printer has AirPrint support, and it is 13 years old. The printers at work all have AirPrint support, and it makes is much easier to configure the Mac to work with those corporate printers.
There are many out there. I use a Canon TS8320 or similar and works great.
As noted, there are many choices. I had to replace my wife's old inkjet printer. I found it very useful to create an Excel spread sheet which listed desired features, cost, etc. Then was the lengthy task of checking prints web sites and recording their various models information. These days you will find a wide disparity in pricing and features. The cost of replacement ink is a big issue. I am sorry, but you should first take the time to accurately determine what you want and need in features. They have costs associated them.
