If your iPad is new - and was purchased directly from Apple within the last 14-days - you would be best advised to seek help directly from Apple sooner rather than later.

In most countries, Apple offer unconditional return for exchange or refund within this 14-day period; if you have any doubts or concerns whatsoever, or if you suspect a technical fault, you would be wise to make use of the opportunity while it remains available to you. Upon expiry of 14-days, Apple reserve the right to exchange under warranty for a renewed/reconditioned (i.e., not “new”) device of the same model and specification.

If purchased from an Apple Store, the easiest method is to return to the Store. Otherwise, contact Apple Support:

Otherwise, assuming that TouchID is working, some users just have difficulty using TouchID. The causes for of TouchID being unreliable for some users - and not others - are many. Whilst not an exhaustive list, possibilities include:

  • Very high humidity (“sweaty” fingers)
  • Very low humidity (excessively dry skin)
  • Poor fingerprint ridge-detail (excessive hand washing - or exposure to abrasive material, damaging fingerprint detail)
  • Physical injury (cuts or splits to the fingertip)

If you have naturally dry skin, try using a “light” (non greasy) and easily absorbed skin moisturiser.

Don’t forget, the technicians at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) will be delighted to assist - and will be able to test and assess your iPad. Once tested, you’ll be able to explore your available options:
