shortcut key combination opens IntelliJ and finder search window at the same time

Hello,

Command + shift + f search in IntelliJ opens the finder "Find in files" window (command + f when focused on a finder window) together with the "Find in files" window in IntelliJ".

It didn't happen a few weeks ago and then suddenly popped up where I don't now exactly why as I didn't change anything.

It doesn't happen when focusing on other windows like outlook or chrome.

What I tried:

  • add an automator routine with a different shortcut for that action which didn't work
  • customer support chat, couldn't help
  • starting Mac in safe mode, didn't disappear
  • Reinstall IntelliJ
  • Use old and new IntelliJ UI

Appreciate any help, many thanks!

A wild guess: maybe you changed the shortcut for finding in Finder from the default Command-Option-space

to Command-Shift-f?

System Settings->Keyboard, click "Keyboard Shortcuts", then select "Spotlight".

If your shortcut there happens to be Command-Shift-f, change it to something else (perhaps back to the default).

You'll need to disable or change the shortcut for Spotlight. In system settings, go to keyboard and click Keyboard Shortcuts.

In the menu that pops up, click on Services and click to expand the Searching item.

There you will find the shortcut to open Spotlight. There you can change it or disable it. I've disabled it as shown here since it disrupted my workflow.
