Mail messages appear blank

I'm helping a friend with a frustrating iPhone Mail problem (iPhone 14, iOS 16.4.1(a)). As of a few days ago, her Mail app displays blank messages, no content. If we go to app switcher and quit the Mail app, then relaunch it, message content displays again. After she sends an email from her phone, the emails in her inboxes go blank again. I see a lot of forum discussion of similar symptoms going back a few years. We have tried all the suggestions I've seen but the problem persists. Before we erase all content & settings and rebuild her phone setup from scratch, checking to see if there are any other solutions to try. Here's what we've already done:

  • installed iOS updates
  • Force-reboot the phone (as well as normal restarts)
  • Reset All Settings
  • Delete and reinstall Mail app, re-add mail accounts
  • Tested on WiFi and cellular data

Thanks for any suggestions.

Having the same issue here. Messages appear blank in the list and if I go into a message that is blank as well, not just no text but whole app just looks like it can’t present text.

This is very strange behaviour.

has anyone resolved this at all?
