while sleeping, Sleep mode turns off and Fitness mode turns on

I have Sleep schedule enabled. My Sleep mode activates fine - mirrored on all my devices. I wear my S6 watch to bed every night. Sometime in the middle of sleep, my Focus changes to Fitness - on my iPhone 12 (my watch is still in Sleep?). Every morning, my phone is in Fitness when I wake up. My watch is in Sleep so my alarm still works on the watch, but not on my phone. The focus change turns the alarm off too. I’ve gone through all settings and even inquired at the Genius Bar. The only response was “maybe your heart rate is high at night” which isn’t the case - and why does the phone change and the watch doesn’t. I haven’t verified focus on my iPad or MacBook upon wakening. It’s frustrating …especially the alarm piece!

Hi SapphireLV,

Do you use the Fitness focus? If not, you might try deleting it to see if it helps. This should keep it from automatically enabling on your iPhone.

Delete a Focus
When you no longer need a Focus you set up, you can delete it.
1. Go to Settings  > Focus.
2. Tap the Focus, scroll to the bottom of the screen, then tap Delete Focus.

If you want to add the Fitness focus again after you test, you can set it up again by going to Settings > Focus, then tapping +.

Kindest Regards.

SapphireLV,

Thank you. We asked to delete the Fitness Focus as a means of troubleshooting. Delete it, test overnight that only Sleep Focus works correctly, and then recreate the Fitness Focus to test the behavior.

Let's also be sure that both the watchOS and iOS software are up-to-date on both devices. We recommend a backup before updating iOS, if you need to.

Yes, I do use the fitness focus. I double checked the Settings for that focus several times. It is set up to turn on when I start a workout. I start workouts on my Apple Watch 100% of the time. The fitness focus is not scheduled on any of my devices, and all the devices are supposed to be synced. When I went to bed last night, the sleep focus was on as it is scheduled to do so. When I woke this morning, my phone and watch were in fitness focus. It somehow switched overnight. I also verified my heart rate did not elevate during sleep, which may trigger my watch to think i am “working out”. I would prefer not to delete the Fitness focus as it shuts off notifications, etc. when I am in Fitness Focus as to not be bothered during my workouts. I appreciate your assistance.
