iMessage - Delete some suggestions from recipient autocomplete list

iMessage and Mail autocomplete recipient lists include almost everyone I ever sent an email to, not limited to my contacts. This happens on my Mac and all of my devices that use iMessage and Mail.

Deleted contacts still appear in the suggested list, too. This is especially hurtful when the suggested recipient has died, even years ago. How do I edit this dropdown list?

iPad mini, iOS 12

Hi bonniefromrumson,

The function you appear to be describing is a component of Siri Suggestions. While those suggestions are not themselves editable, it is possible to disable them. The article Siri Suggestions on iPhone cover where to find those settings and how to disable them:

"Turn Siri Suggestions on or off for an app

Siri Suggestions are on by default for your apps. You can turn them off or change the settings at any time.

  1. Go to Settings > Siri & Search, scroll down, then select an app.
  2. Turn settings on or off."

In that list of apps are options for Mail and Messages, both of which can be turned off.

Regards.
