Unable to re-enter Outlook email Password - Apple Mail app - iPhone, dialog box closes immediately - SOLUTION Reset Network
Hi Folks,
I just licked a problem that happened with an iPhone 14 Pro Max on iOS 16.4.1. The user had just agreed to 2FA with MS365. The Apple Mail app could no longer connect and wanted the password to be reentered. Microsoft apps on the phone were fine.
When attempting to re-enter the password via Settings->Mail->Accounts->(the account in question)->Re-Enter the password, the web dialog box from Microsoft would come up, then almost immediately that dialog would close.
Other users with devices at iOS 16.4.1 were fine after they did their 2FA agreement with MS365. Only this one iPhone had a problem.
I had done the following to attempt to fix
- delete the mail account, restart the phone and reenter the mail account - no difference
- simply restart the phone, no difference
- checked Sophos anti-virus to insure that there was no blocking - it was fine
- changed the default browser, no difference
- stopped auto-fill from happening - no difference
The final thing that did work - Reset Network Settings. So where you would reset your phone on General in Settings, you would pick the Reset Network Settings. That wipes all Wifi passwords saved, removes various certificates saved. Your mobile/data plan setup is unaffected.
Once I did the Reset Network - I went back into Renter password under Settings->Mail->Accounts, and the web based dialog box behaved and allowed me to enter the password, grant permissions, and finish the 2FA process!
