How do I filter out false hits when searching for a specific recording in iTunes Store?

Here's the problem: I'm looking for a certain recording of Smack Dab in the Middle, but I'm not sure who's singing it. So here's what I tried.

First I used my Mac's Music App to search the iTunes Store for "Smack Dab in the Middle."

I get 10 results, of which 7 are called Smack Dab in the Middle, and the other three include that line in the song somewhere. None of the 7 are the one I'm looking for, so…

Second, I click on "See All."

Now I get way too many results. It only shows 60. When I sort them alphabetically, they go from A to G, and when I reverse the order, they go from U to the end of the alphabet, so none of them are the title I want to find. I don't see any button to load the next 60. 20 are recordings of "Up On the Roof," 17 of them by The Drifters. I don't want to see any of these. They must all contain that phrase in the lyrics, which is certainly helpful in some cases, but in my case it just gets in my way.

Is there any way to search just in a song title, and not include the lyrics?

And if there are still to many results, is there any way to go to the next page?

Hi Miguel,

Actually you have already pushed the iTunes Store search capability to its max. There is not a way to filter as you suggest.

Two recommendations:

  1. Search some other sources to gain additional information about album name, etc., and use that to refine your search back in the iTunes Store
  2. Consider the possibility that the version you seek is not available in the Store at all, so no amount of searching will turn it up. Note that Allmusic.com lists around 150 songs with the title "Smack Dab in the Middle," and surely most of them are not currently available in any download store.
