Wireless CarPlay stopped working after upgrading to iOS 16.2

Verified on iPhone 12 mini & iPhone SE 2022.

I also have an old iPhone 6s with iOS 13 and it's connecting without any issue.

Why break a working feature?

I now use cable and it's killing my battery (Battery health is dropping by at least one percent per month).

This is not acceptable.

Hello Bigfoot7375,

It appears that you haven't been able to use CarPlay wirelessly with your iPhone 12 mini or iPhone SE. You mentioned it was specifically after the iOS 16.2 update. The first thing we'd recommend is making sure both devices have been fully updated to iOS 16.4.1. That will often resolve most issues like this.

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If the issue still persists, there are additional helpful steps specific to CarPlay in this article: If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support

1. Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:
• If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
• If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on on your iPhone under Settings > Bluetooth. Then go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and make sure that Wi-Fi is also turned on. Tap the CarPlay network, and check that Auto-Join is turned on.
2. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display and select it.
3. Restart your iPhone and your car.
4. Make sure that Siri is on.
5. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions is on, tap Allowed Apps, and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
6. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
7. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

Reply back with how it goes.

Best regards.

Thank you both for the answers.

But sadly, been there and done that.

My iPhone 12 mini is on the recent iOS (16.4.1a).

I've updated the 6s to the latest as well (15.7.5) and still working wirelessly.

My daughter's iPhone Xs is wirelessly connecting too with 16.0.3.

This was broken when upgrading from iOS 16.1.2 to 16.2.

I know this because I picked up my new car and all was good on 16.1.2 and couple of weeks later when 16.2 was out, it stopped working.

Seems like software issue as my 12 mini was ok at 16.1.2, but what changed and why?

No new software was installed and had VPN configuration on 16.1.2.

In order to try solve the issue (saw the VPN posts):

I've deleted my work place VPN & configurations and it didn't solve the connectivity issue.

Even did factory reset with out restoring my backup and it still did not connect.

Would highly appreciate any ideas how to fix it as the battery is loosing health at fast rate.
