If people hard reset iPad M1 pro and log in using a different Apple ID, will my Find My app still be able to locate it?

My iPad got stolen the day before yesterday night. I bought it about 20 days ago and had only managed to log in using my Apple ID, activate Face ID and (I think) turn the find device option on. Right now, when I check the Find My app, it shows my iPad but the status is offline. I was wondering if people can hard reset the device or unlock it somehow, and use a different Apple ID to log in. I have also turned the lost device mode on but the status is pending.

Lastly, is there a way I can trace it? Like, even if the device is not connected to the internet but is switched on? I got in touch with the authorities here but they instead asked me to inform them once Find My locates it.

iPad Pro, iPadOS 14

Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

When your iPad is connected to Wi-Fi, you will be able to track its location. If someone tries to erase your device, they will need your Apple ID and password to finishing setting up the iPad. That is: they can't use your iPad unless they have your passcode or Apple ID information.

If you are concerned you may have information on the device you don't want anyone to access, you can use the Find My app to remotely erase all content from your device -- keeping in mind that no one can finish setting up your iPad unless:

  • They have your Apple ID and password
  • You remove your iPad from your Apple ID account

If you receive a solicitation asking you to remove your iPad from your Apple ID account, I would strongly recommend you do not comply. Removing/disconnecting your iPad from your Apple ID will allow anyone to complete finishing setting up your iPad. As it is, your stolen iPad is a pretty paperweight.
