iPhone IOS 16.4.1a rapid response update ruined phone

Today my wife updated her IPhone XS Max with the IOS 16.4.1a rapid response update and noticed that her background is black and the picture is gone and also if someone sends a text the phone does not make the sound or show the notification when the phone is not physically on. A reboot makes it fine for a short time. If she opens an app, then closes the app, the background is gone again and text’s don’t make a sound or show the notification. We uninstalled the 16.4.1a update and after the reboot we still have the problem. What’s going g on with this? It ruined her phone.

That update has many problems, just like all the others. On my own devices, they disconnect from Wi-Fi when not in use. The only fix is “Reset Network Settings.”

My recommendation for your problem is to back up your phone, then do a complete erase and restore. If the problem persists, do a complete erase again, but then set your phone up manually. (Do not attempt a restore.) I fully realize this is a terrible inconvenience, and that it can take many hours to perform, but it’s what typically works when other fixes don’t. Especially with severe problems like you’re experiencing.

You could try calling Apple tech-support, but you’ll end up back here anyway. Might as well get started now, and get it over with so you can get back to your life.
