Its about my stolen new iphone being stolen

I purchased a new iPhone, the latest one. But i had a friend over the day that it was delivered. I was so excited but busy. So my friend asks if he could set it up & I said yes. Well, he entered all of my info into the phone, it had everything but not my iPhone number. So I called to see if I could set it up and was told no, I was told I would have to send it in. so I had it ready to take to send it but I checked the box, and the iPhone wasn't there. My friend got it and I've called the police dept and its been months and nothing. BUT under settings, then my name and low and behold the iPhone 14 Plus that I had just gotten was on there with another number.

I've tried to call the cops this info but they are not doing anything. I'm having to pay the full price of over $1000.

I do not know what to do???? Does anyone have any suggestions?

can you contact your carrier to set the phone as stolen so that the IMEI gets disabled and can never be used again. I have T-Mobile and had to do this with my wife's Apple Watch. it was stolen and we marked it as stolen and the IMEI was disabled and they said that even if we got it back that it can never be used again. in your case since you bought the phone the serial number and IMEI should be under your account even if your friend put their number on it.
