Can my stolen iPhone be used by someone else?
Soooo…. My 3 day old iPhone 14 pro was stolen last Thursday when I was in a store. I put it on a counter and a guy ran out of the store with it. Straight away I went on another device and marked it lost. It was almost out of battery. When I marked it as lost, I put another phone number on it for the person who had it to call. The guy who had my phone called a few hours later. He wanted to meet up and have me pay him for my phone. I decided not to - the risk wasn’t worth it to me. I then decided to erase that phone but still be able to track it. 4 days later, I’m still tracking it, so he must be charging it. What I’m trying to understand is if it’s possible to “jailbreak” an iPhone and use it, albeit with new software, and I can continue to track it? Given this phone only has eSims and I’ve now transferred them to a different iPhone, I’m wanting to understand what the value of what my phone is to anyone else. It is clearly being charged because it would be dead by now, but I’m also seeing the phone move around the city where it is. I called apple support and they really couldn’t shed much light on this for me.
