ios 16.4.1 (a) caused camera not to focus

After updating to the latest IOS - both of my Iphone 12 minis have a camera issue. They both do not focus, they are CONSTANTLY trying to, and we hear what sounds like static coming from the speakers. If I switch from main camera to the reverse camera it is solid and focused, no static. My battery is showing 100% and it is not impacted at all. Need help ASAP, vacation is coming soon.

This has been diagnosed by apple as my camera component needs to be replaced and b/c it is out of warranty they would charge me $169 to perform the repair. As I have an insurance policy with another provider I am going to see if they will perform the repair under my policy.

Where to get a New Battery, Other than Apple:

Getting a New iPhone Battery:

Other than Apple, see an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your local area. Be wary as to where you get this item, ask you may get a continual error message of an ungenuine camera. So, to avoid this continual message, it is best to have an Apple or an AASP replace the battery.

Contacting an AASP:

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the battery

If the issues you have described are a direct result of the iOS 16.4 or iOS 16.4.1 update, it is highly likely that a substantial number of users who have performed the software upgrade are encountering a similar problem.

Based on my understanding and experience, it is highly unlikely that iOS updates would introduce issues that affect the day-to-day functioning of the device. iOS updates are typically designed to enhance performance, address security concerns, and introduce new features, rather than causing operational difficulties.

Without a precise understanding of the underlying issue, it may be challenging for forum members to provide targeted solutions to the difficulties you are encountering.

I have spent over 2 hrs with apple support on the phone, and have reset the phone, reloaded from backup and still have the issue, currently apple support is looking into this problem. As stated this happened after update to IOS. Phone was fine prior to update (both phones are 12minis). Awaiting further diagnosis reports from apple support att.

It’s pretty obvious. Apple is introducing bugs in software updates for older devices, the support staff is unaware so they try and try and try to fix it, but they can’t. The “investigate” but nothing will come of that. We’re now on iOS 16.6 and the issue is still not fixed, which shows they’re not going to fix it. Apple has been caught doing this before, so we know they’re not above damaging your $1200 iPhone you just bought 2 years ago so that you’ll spend another $1200 with them.
