That icon is like a button for AirPlay: streaming video from your iPhone to an AirPlay-receiving device. That receiving device can be an Apple TV box, or select smart TVs with this functionality, or select third party tv-connected streaming devices with this functionality (Roku). The icon would change if it were actually streaming.

So it was not streaming? What color would the icon be if it was streaming?
When streaming using AirPlay, you would see a blue AirPlay icon on the Home Screen (not in apps, nor in Control Center). In Control Center, you would see what is playing, if a specific video was selected for AirPlay streaming.
In the playback widget in Control Center, the icon color would not change, but the icon shape would change to the destination symbol (Apple TV box, smart TV, or Mac).
If Screen Mirroring would have been activated, then that would also show a blue stadium shape indicator, but then change to the time display instead of an icon.
No tvs were on when i was watching anything
