iMessage Search History

Hello,

Is there a way to see my iMessage search history on my iPhone? I remember searching something to find some info a buddy of mine sent me a few months ago but I can’t remember what I searched to find it. Is there a way to view what I typed into the I message search bar?

iPhone 11, iOS 16

"Thank you for the reply! I think you answered my question but I want to clarify to be sure. In the search iMessages bar at the top there isn’t a recently searched section or search history that I can look through? I was hoping to find what I previously searched to find the info but I hadn’t considered my IPhone deleted the messages over time."

You are welcome.

Looking Up Recent Searches on the Message App:

No. There is no search history for macOS Messages.

So, Recommend this to Apple:

Do your Part: Inform Apple of this idea. You'd do so by providing Apple Feedback on this.  Apple wont get back to you directly, but the more feedback thy receive from its users, the more likely they will know what their customers prefer, and what options to include in macOS versions to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Feature Request" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Select: "User Interface" for the "Feedback Area"
  4. Comment: on why you want this to be an option, and how you think it can help others. Include the URL of this thread.
  5. Proceed from there as necessary

Search History for iMessage:

As you type in the search bar, existing messages with that content would show up. So, if they do not show up, then they are likely lost.

Troubleshooting Deleted Messages:

What to Consider:

A. Restore from Today's Backup:

Restore your iPhone from a backup of it that contains these messages, and you could recover them.

B. Check Messages App:

If messages was enabled on your iPhone along with your Apple computer, then check and see if the Messages app is enabled on your Mac to see if it exists in it. You'd start up your Mac, not connecting to the Internet, and open the Massages app. Then proceed from there with retrieving it. Important: Be certain you do not connect to the Internet while booting up, as syncing would delete it. So, power off your router to avoid the connection.

Elsewise, if they're gone, they're gone. That's just the way it is :(
