Excessive Security Services data usage – Continued

This is a continuation of the "Security Services data usage" thread from https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252600457

I'm STILL having this dreaded problem, now more than 2 years later and 3 generations of iPhones and iOS later. What started on my iPhone 12 Pro Max (iOS 14) continued on my iPhone 13 Pro Max (iOS 15), and this issue still plagues my iPhone 14 Pro Max (iOS 16)!

The phone gets warm to touch, sometimes uncomfortably so in my pants pocket.

The biggest issue for me is that the battery life TANKS. I often have to charge mid afternoon to continue using my phone. I shouldn't have to carry around a charger if I'm not going to be around power for a few hours.

I'm on an unlimited cellular data plan, but I'd be very unhappy if I was chewing through my cellular data plan as others are reporting. The "Security Services" process has used SIX HUNDRED AND ONE GIGABYTES over my cellular connection during this reporting period, and still counting.

So far, here are some of the things I've done to address this. It's been years and I have probably forgotten some steps:

  • Reboot iPhone
  • Log out of iCloud, reboot iPhone, log back into iCloud
  • Delete ALL of my Keychain secure notes that I've been using for YEARS. I copied them to locked entries in Notes.app now that's an option

The only thing that works for me it to disable syncing Passwords and Keychain in iCloud of Settings. I reported being unable to do so in the support thread linked above, but at least that's working now.

Sometime long ago, I pinpointed the log spam watching Console.app output for my iPhone on a MacBook Pro.

This is a known problem.

Others are experiencing it.

It's been happening for years.

I also see other symptoms that I believe may be related- AirPods handoffs between devices don't always work, AirDrop between my systems using the same AppleID frequently don't work, and I'm sure there are others.

Apple- fix this 💩 please.
