I cannot reset my iPhone 4SE

I cannot reset my iPhone 4SE because I have changed my Apple

ID since I last used it. This presents me with a problem because I wished to

give this iPhone to my grandson. It is so long ago that I last used it that the

credentials used are completely out of date (I have subsequently gone through

two more iPhones since last used – plus have changed my Apple ID).

Does anyone have any idea how to reset this iPhone?

Because I changed my ID the email address and hence my ID is

not recognised and even if I could remember my password it would not work as it’s

related to that ID I first had.

Just a dilemma

Did you "change" your Apple ID as outlined in Change your Apple ID - Apple Support

or did you change it by creating a new ID. If you did it using the latter method, you will need that account information to reset the device, or you will have to ask Apple to reset the iPhone. Apple can completely reset a device if a person can provide sufficient evidence of valid ownership. Do this online at: Activation Lock support request - https://al-support.apple.com/#/additional-support Apple says, "Proof of ownership documentation is required," but does not detail what currently constitutes proof. Prior to this new online service Apple typically required the original receipt issued by Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller and documented provenance (so typically it would be the original owner who does this, or a descendant with legal proof of ownership). This will give you access to the device but won't restore access to the account used to lock it.

Thank you for your informative answer. I have now managed to reset the iPhone. After no luck with passwords from the depth of my memory I suddenly thought that perhaps the use of my old Apple ID may be confusing me. I could see it listed in my devices so I tried my current password but still with my ‘old’ ID showing. It worked. Thank again for your reply, appreciated
