Can I use an app that requires macOS 13 on my older iMac Late 2015 with up to date macOS 12.6.5 and what might happen if I tried?

I would like to know if I could use an app that says that it requires macOS 13 on my Late 2015 up to date macOS 12.6.5? What would yoou think might happen if I tried it?

No. The app was made to only work with that OS (macOS 13.x and possibly newer).


If you previously purchased an older version of that app through the App Store using the older OS 12.6.x (or possibly an older OS), then you should be able to go to the "Purchase History" or "Previously Purchased" items and redownload the older app. If you never purchased the older version of the app through the App Store, then you cannot download it now.


Does the app developer provide downloads of their app from their own website? If so, maybe the developer provides an older version of the app somewhere on their website. Only acquire the app direct from the developer, or you risk installing malware on your system.

I believe so, but I haven't gone into my purchase history to redownload an app in a very long time. I seldom acquire apps from the App Store on my computer as I don't like the App Store.


Assuming you are using an OS compatible with that app.
