why is my phone not working?

when i open messages, facetime or phone my screen turns black and i also am not able to make calls, not even on whatsapp. and everytime i try to power off my phone it just won't let me. the slidy thing wont show up for power off. could someone help me resolve this? as well as this i tried updating my phone but it didnt go though and it now wont load my updates available
