How do I unzip/unpack a dmg file with Ventura OS please?

An iMac with Ventura OS. I downloaded a camera firmware update in dmg form that has to be opened and the folder copied to a card reader. (Yes, it was the version for my OS, I know some one would ask the obvious, smile.)

Double clicking or command click does nothing. The information shows Open with is set to diskImage Mounter. I have also tried open with DiskImageMounter. Nothing happened in either case.

Any clear directions on what should have been really simple, would be greatly appreciated!

iMac 24″, macOS 13.3

After double-clicking, use Go > Computer in the Finder and see if there is a mounted volume there that corresponds to the disk image.

If there isn't, it sounds like it is damaged or a really old disk image format that is not recognized. Or, you have something strange wrong with your Mac. Maybe try starting up in Safe Mode, then restart normally.

A "disk image" file is a compressed "disk." When you uncompress the image, it mounts a disk or "volume."

The mounted volume appears just as if it was any other type of drive, disk, volume, whatever name you want to use.

Go > Computer shows all mounted volumes. I don't know why it wouldn't open the mounted image, but it may be that it mounted the image, but didn't open the window in Finder.

I don't understand why a company would put a zip file inside a disk image. That really makes little sense.
