How to I fix an elevation issue?

My watch is tracking that I’m taking 100 plus flights of stairs a day! I’m not that amazing. It’s more accurately about 10 - how can I fix it?

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.

FWIW one user said he talked to some Apple Watch engineers and they suggested:

  1. locking the water (swipe up and hit the water drop),
  2. washing the watch with alcohol or soap/water,
  3. flush the water out per the instructions - pull on crown.

It worked! Voila! Miscounting flights of stairs problem fixed.
