Hi, thanks for reaching out! Try to go to the Settings app on your Apple Watch, then tap Battery > Battery Health. In this area, there should be a feature named 'Optimized Battery Charging'. Disable this feature and see if you are now able to charge your iPhone fully to 100% again. Hope this helps.

My watch was only charging to 74% capacity. I went to Settings ->Battery->Battery Health, scrolled down past the "Optimized Battery Charging " option, and read this explanation:

"Apple watch can learn from your daily usage and determine when to charge to an optimized limit and when to allow for a full charge. This limit adapts to your daily usage and preserves your battery lifespan over time. Apple watch may wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it. " etc...

Now, I'm not sure if it's a good thing my watch is not charging to full power, but I will leave the "Optimized Battery Charging " on, assuming Apple knows best about battery maintenance.

I had Optimized Battery Charging set to "off", but when the 17.4 (?) update came out, it still would go to optimized charging each morning when I tried to recharge my phone.

I went in and turned Optimized Charging back on, then off. When I turned it Off again, it asked if I wanted it just turned off until tomorrow or all of the time. I chose the latter and haven't had the issue since.

I'm wondering if they introduced the "temporary off" capability with 17.4 or thereabouts? It appears to default to that if you already had your Optimized Charging off when you updated.

Hope this helps someone who might still be experiencing this - if you have the optimize charging option off on your watch, turn it on, then off again - then you can make your choice.

I have a series 3 Apple Watch and I’ve had it for 4 years. I don’t have the option to optimize my battery on my watch. It connects and then 5 minutes later it disconnects without me even having to touching the highest I’ve gotten it to charge is 70% but instead of it staying there and continuing to charge it will randomly drop to 40% all by itself.

I suspect that your Watch needs a new battery.

This just started for me yesterday after the 10.4 WatchOS update (Series 8 watch). I have the optimized setting turned off in Battery Health already, so I needed to also change the open charging to "charge to full" when I checked battery level. I thought it was a one-off after updating to 10.4 and restarting, and didn't give it another thought.

I charge my watch in the morning as I use it to monitor sleep at night. It was below 80% when I put it on the charger this morning and again, it was set to Open Charging only to 80%, and had to tell it to charge to full AGAIN.

I have a difficult time believing that this isn't a bug.. What is the purpose of the optimized charge setting if you're going to ignore it?
