imessage taking up storage

hi! i recently just upgraded to my new phone. on my old phone, imessages only took up about 1.6 gb but on my new phone it takes ok 12.33. i deleted all the media in my messages and my messages also so idk what to do. please help 🙏🙏

Messages taking up 5.20GB of my storage. Recently I've been trying to cut down my storage from my phone to try and keep it alive for as long as I can. And so I've gone from 40GB of storage to about 28-29GB of storage. But something is keeping my storage up: My messages. I've searched up tutorial after tutorial online of how to clear my message storage. At first it was 4.8GB being taken up so I deleted some stuff, and it went down to 4.2GB. But recently it's shot up to 5.2GB being taken up... I've deleted every conversation I've had, every attachment sent to me, and I've made sure to check my storage every day and it's not going down at all. There hasn't been any new iOS updates either, which I heard could help clear some apps' storages out. And the strange thing is I only text about 3 people. Any ideas of how I could decrease my messages storage? Extra info: I have an iPhone XR and I am on iOS 17.5.1.

iMessages send slowly - Message storage? Hi - I have been to the genius bar, and we did a full factory restore on my phone. I had issues with everything being slow on my old SE 2nd gen. I changed phone to a new 13 and changed provider. Didn't matter if it was wifi or 5G or LTE or whatever. The phone is better, but still sends message very slowly, which is frustrating when I am in a "conversation" with someone. I save ALL my messages, so perhaps that app runs slowly because of it. I have gone into phone storage. There is no recommended large files to delete. I have a lot of storage left on the phone. More than half. Any ideas? Thanks, Robert

One thing you may do is open Messages, tap “Edit” on top, followed by “Show recently deleted messages”, and delete everything there.

Or tap each category shown in your top screenshot.

Tap “Edit” in the upper right and delete all relevant materially.

hey i deleted everything in my top screenshot! but it’s okay i just went to my recently deleted and recovered them and am manually deleting each photo in the messages and it seems to be working
