My iPod 7th gen all of sudden started shutting down and rebooting itself. Aso says it has low battery when it is at least 40%.

Hello cali45,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your iPod restarts. We are happy to help.

These steps may help. Please try the steps here: If your iOS or iPadOS device restarts or displays the Apple logo or a spinning gear unexpectedly - Apple Support

  1. "Check your software
  2. Check your software"

We also recommend the tips here to check battery usage: About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

"To see an overview of your battery level and activity for the last 24 hours and up to the last 10 days, go to Settings > Battery.

To see how long each app was in use on screen (the dark blue bars) or in the background (the light blue bars), tap Show Activity. Under each app, you might see these usage types:

iPhone showing Battery screen in Settings

  • Background Activity means that most of the app's battery usage — such as playing music or tracking location — happened while the app was in the background.
  • No Cell Coverage and Low Signal means that your device was searching for a signal or being used with a low signal.
  • Connected to Charger means the app was used only when your device was charging."

These tips can be helpful in maximizing battery life: Batteries - Maximizing Performance - Apple

  1. "Update to the latest software.
  2. Optimize your settings.
  3. Plug in and power on your computer to charge your iPod."

Let us know if you have further questions.

Take care.

Thank you for the advice and steps.

I looked at all of the above...the software is up to date, batter usage for today was less than 2 hours and was all using Sirius. And in the middle of playing, it shut down. When I tried to start it, it showed no battery but as soon as I plugged it into my PC, the battery was at 83%
