RAW is a special image format, storing the image withou any modifications right from the sensor of the camera. RAW files are usually hugh files, and need developing, before we can view the image.
Professional photographers love to use the RAW format, because we can it will give better results when editing a photo. For RAW files on an iPhone see: About Apple ProRAW - Apple Support
When you select one of the photos with the black squares and tap the button with the three dots in the upper right corner, is there an option to revert this photo to the original? If yes, try if reverting to the original will remove the black squares.
I have seen random black boxes, when my photos have been edited with a third party app, that is no longer compatible with the current system version. Have you been using the standard Camera.app that comes with the system or a third-party camera? Are you shooting RAW?
I don’t think I am using any 3rd party app and have no idea what RAW is - I have posted a picture as asked by old toadie which shows the problem - thank you both for replying
Opps. Didn't realize that it was an iPhone issue. This and my previous reply will self delete in 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5……………
The three dots don’t give a revert to original option I am sorry to say
