How do you delete group message/text suggestions - revisiting a topic from years ago still not fixed?

Hi apple world,

I went to search for a name in my messages and of course the actual group i was looking for with that person didn't pop up. I actually find the search in messages to be great at finding words inside a message but terrible at finding your actual thread or group thread with a person in it. Perhaps i'm missing something here but it never ever works as i want it to.

For this example, instead of search finding a current and active message group with this person my message app suggested other message groups with that person in them from years agod. The group message was deleted and is from 2020. How is this possible the phone would still try to populate, via name search, that group message?

Is there any way to clear out old message groups so they don't...

autofill when typing out a message to an individual/group
don't pull up old group messages that have long since been deleted when using the search bar

Maybe this is some sort of indexing, iphone storing old data (why iphone storage messages has a category called "other" along with pics, videos, gif/stickers. I am not sure but all i know is it is super annoying to have irrelevant old groups populate when i search for current messages.

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! To leave group messages, you'll want to follow the steps below:

Leave a group text message thread on your iPhone or iPad

How to leave a group text message

1. Tap the group text message that you want to leave.

2. Tap the group icons at the top of the thread.

3. Scroll down and tap Leave this Conversation. If you're on iOS 14 or earlier, tap the Info button , then tap Leave this Conversation.

You can leave a group text message as long as there are three other people on the thread and everyone is using an Apple device, like an iPhone or iPad. If you don't see the option to leave, it might mean that one or more of the users isn't using an Apple device with iMessage.

With iOS 16 and later, you can use Messages to colaborate on a project with others. If you leave a group message where everyone collaborates on a project, you may still have access to the project afterwards. Apps that host the shared project usually control access.

If you can't leave a group text message, you can mute the conversation so you don't get notifications.

Hello Less,

thanks for your post. If you read the subject carefully it is regarding removal of auto filled chat groups that are no longer in existence. Yet my phone continues to suggest them when start new messages.

the generic Apple instructions you provided are zero help and in this case.

i do not want to leave an existing group message. I want my phone to STOP suggesting random groups when I start a new message.
