Account recovery-stuck in a loop

Hello. I bought my husband an Apple Watch two weeks ago. He went to sign in and pair and he didn’t know password so was going to reset. When he tried the phone did not recognize his passcode. Said it was wrong but not. Long story, 6 times now talking to apple support and 4 account recovery’s, one trip to Apple Store and no one can help. He is stuck in a loop where the phone does not recognize his passcode when he finally gets the go ahead from recovery to reset. Tier one reps have tried to help but can’t. Finally got to a tier 2 and she tried to help and was the best but we couldn’t get back to her today even though she sent him an email and said to ask for her. This is beyond frustrating. His phone is a work phone and they give him a new one every few years. The tier 2 said it might be looking for one of those passcodes, but he can’t remember any as it has been years! Something was mentioned about resetting the encrypted data when we got thru recovery but cannot get there. Someone please help! Thank you. He has an iPhone 12 and it is up to date on software.

I’m so sorry I need to explain exactly my situation, last night was kinda late and I just wanted to get the word out for the many people that are going thru this never ending loop with the recovery issue. Ok so my problem was that I got locked out of my iPhone, so when I did the reset I had forgotten my user I’d password 😵‍💫 and that’s when the nightmare started, we did the trusted device that was going to take 20 days 😱, so I took out my SIM Card from my phone placed it on an older phone I had so I could have access to my number, after many and I mean many days of typing in the code that sent to my number, a level 2 advisor finally told me to turn off all devices that could have been linked to my Apple ID and it worked 🙏🏼 hope it works for you too 🙏🏼

Hi, I'm having problems with account recovery issues too. Going on 3 months now. I've gone through account recovery 8 times and have had 4 different case managers all saying how they want to support me and they will walk me through everything until this is resolved only to disappear. Because I can't change my password on my Apple ID I can't email them on their "private link". It doesn't matter because they will ghost you anyway. Meanwhile my phone is starting to shut down because I can't back it up or update apps. All I can do is to keep calling AppleCare until they get so sick of me something gets done. This automated security IS THE WORST! I wish you luck.

Thanks T101, I understand now. I have a 14 (the newest iPhone) which doesn’t have a physical SIM card. I don’t think my phone was set up properly. I’m probably going to have to save every thing to my computer, wipe out my phone and start over again. The catch is in order to do that I have to be able to put in my password for the Apple ID which has locked me out. I am now with my 4th case manager who seems to want to stick with me through this. I get that Apple has upped their security but this is ridiculous. It’s all automated now which is a problem. Wish me luck and thanks for the info. K

Does anybody know if AirPods count? The AirPods 3rd generation I have tied to the apple id I am trying to recover using account recovery way. And I am in the loop too for the past month. Occasionally using the AirPods and started thinking if that kicking me out from the account recovery flow?!

All the other devices are wiped and out of power, have put them in the cave in the mountains so they don't accidentally connect and ruin my long waits with account recovery...
