Apparently I need to chuck this laptop and get a new one.
One suggested solution from years ago when there were different settings on MacBook, and the other calls for a new external keyboard.
I'm very discouraged, and unhappy

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment
Make an appointment for a "hardware issue"
