iPhone verification fails while trying to sign in to my iCloud account due to an error that prevents my connection to both Apple ID server and the internet in general.
Most commonly this issue is caused by one of the following issues
A stable network connection is required for Apple devices and services to connect. If the connection is weak, the Apple services may not work.
Check the connection and retry logging in with your Apple ID.
You can check the Network Settings or even try Resetting your network settings.
Reset your Network Settings
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will also reset Wi-Fi networks and passwords, mobile data settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.
The verification fails when the Apple server has a different time, date, or location than the iOS device.
Change the date/time in Settings> Date & time and turn on 'Set Automatically' to match your iPhone's time and date with the Apple server.
If you're using a VPN server then there's a chance of it causing this error 'Verification failed Apple ID'. To fix this turn off your VPN server.

Hello leonard1956!
This is most likely a connection issue. Try connecting to another WiFi network. Also, please view this Support Article: If you see No Service, Searching, or SOS on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.
I hope this is helpful. Good Luck!
You could connect to a public WiFi network, and then try to connect to the internet, and sign into your iCloud account. This would then rule out a network issue.
Good morning H1290,
thank you kindly for your responsive correspondence. I am working from a desktop device currently and connected via my wifi network that is working flawlessly. I don’t have access to another network. I did give the Support Article a close look and followed up with the suggested check lists regarding items under the Settings menu and my iPhone verification failure still prevails. I have a couple of other avenues to investigate/eliminate.
Thank you for your time and thoughtful consideration regarding this matter,
Leonard
