Is there a way to get Siri to stop saying uh huh when I say “Hey Siri”?

The response is not caused by anyone participating here in this forum. It has also been explained several times how to avoid ever hearing that response.

It wouldn't suprise me in the least if Apple's intentions with "um hmm?" were to encourge people to unlearn the behaviour they had learned with older phones of waiting for a response before continuing. That's no longer necessary with the more powerful phones.

I logged in specially to say how much I like this feature. I often use Siri with noise cancelling headphones, getting an “uh hu” to let me know Siri can hear me and is listening is very reassuring. It’s very short, I don’t have to wait for a long acknowledgement I can start talking as soon as I hear the “uh” and everything will be captured. It’s also natural as previous comments said it’s how I would expect a friend to react if we had been quietly sharing space then I said their name.

Agreed and the reasons for liking this feature do not change that Siri’s responses are at least informal and at most trashy. It’s on Apple for failing to give an option to have a more manners based way of responding.

This feature is infuriating. I pause to think. And then she interrupts my thought with her uh-uh. As a former teacher, we were taught to let students process by pausing and NOT interrupting. I certainly would never have responded with ‘uh-huh’. Who does that? Why can she just make a little soft beep sound? Or a bird chirp? Or a bell chime? Or a click? Or a clap? Or a ring? So many options.

I think Siri is the biggest failure Apple has ever created. The fact that it responds with "UH HUH" or "MHMM" when I say Hey Siri, makes me want to reach through my screen and strangle the processor. Fix this Apple. The condescending responses from Siri are completely unnecessary.

Why with all the negative feedback does apple refuse to clean up Siri and stop with the Uh huh or mmmm. It’s not human like, it’s not something a friend would say and it’s rude. Apple has had ample time to address this but they refuse. This is an annoyance and with other issues with my iphone, Apple TV, it’s time to grow up and switch to android. The Samsung cameras are incredible.

This does not work for me. I say - hey siri, turn on do not disturb - with NO PAUSING and she interrupts me with Uh Huh even when I have her turned off from saying anything else out loud and the silence button flipped to orange. I am about to go back to the Pixel over this one issue. She is hands down the worst robot.

This is extremely annoying and actually makes me want to stop using Siri.

This also happens during CarPlay.

Siri interrupts me no matter how fast I talk.

Apple, you need to fix this. It is not natural.

Yeah I ask it a question and when I’m talking it interrupts me and I have to stop and wastes time and thinking again what I was gonna say it makes me lose the fluent. Smooth talk . Help us you engineers of Apple get on it!

I do not get the "uhhhh" on HomePod, iPhone, or Mac as long as there is no pause after the Siri command. Not sure why it is something you are experiencing. I just say "Siri what time is it" and get the time without any other feedback from Siri.

it’s annoying and irritating. It’s like we are bothering her with a question or need assistance for information .

Apple you can do better than this.

This is a user-to-user technical support forum. As has been repeatedly explained in this thread, Apple doesn't read here for feedback or suggestions. The feedback link, which Apple does read, has been given repeatedly.

What has also been explained repeatedly is that it is under your control to stop Siri from every saying "uh huh". Use the power you have.

I read a very interesting article a few years ago that made me give some thought to the fact that female voices are usually the default used for digital assistants and about how it mirrors the fact that in the real world, assistants, the people who serve, are so often women.
