I purchased an item and paid half with Apple Pay and half with my credit card because I didn't have enough money with Apple Pay alone. I had to return the item and it got returned to an unfamiliar card - one that wasn't even associated with my bank or my apple pay wallet... How do I track down that refund?

Apple Cash is a virtual card and while it doesn’t have a physical card, it is a prepaid debit card and has an account number associated with it. Have you looked at your Apple Cash card? I’ve linked to a support article below that explains how to find your Apple Cash numbers,
