macOS Catalina 10.15.7 Won't Update to a newer OS

Hello all,

I'm in need of some help because I'm kind of lost. I recently saw my Laptop had a newer version of an OS (Monterey) than my desktop Mac (Catalina). Logic Pro X has newer sounds on my Laptop, so I'm trying to figure out a way to update my Desktop's OS. The issue is I can't for the life of me figure out why it's not already auto-updated. I have auto-updates turned on, my Hardware seems capable of supporting current OS'.

Below is a screenshot of my computer's overview. Is my computer somehow not able to update because of certain specifications? Or is there some type of glitch/setting that I need to look into to see why it won't update. Any help is super appreciated and would help me immensely. Thank you!

I am not sure if I am missing something. I cannot see any image or picture? Is it possible to update my OS 10.15.7?

Your screen shot indicates that you have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) running macOS 10.15.7 (Catalina).

For that Mac, Catalina is the end of the line. No updates to Big Sur or later are available. Sorry.

Although vendors like Microsoft and Adobe no longer support Catalina, there may be applications that you can install to get a little bit more useful life out of that machine. For example, Catalina is enough to run the current versions of the Firefox Web browser and the LibreOffice office suite.

To be clear, in the world of Macs, software update is a revision of the macOS currently running on the Mac; update Catalina 10.15.1 to Catalina 10.15.7, for example.

To update your current macOS, click the Apple  icon > About This Mac and then click Software Updates.... If there are any updates available for your Mac, they will be listed and you can apply them when you like.  Software updates may be set to occur automatically.  If no updates are presented, then it may be assumed that none are available for your current OS.

A software upgrade replaces the current macOS with a newer, differently named version; upgrade from 10.13 High Sierra to 10.14 Mojave, for example, or from 10.15 Catalina to macOS 11 Big Sur. Upgrades do not happen automatically, They must be initiated by a user with admin privileges.

Use Software Update to update or upgrade macOS, including built-in apps like Safari.

Go into the About This Mac dialog in the Apple () menu. Post the model name and hardware year information that you see there. Just that, not the serial number.

Examples: "iMac (27-inch, Late 2013)", "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)". The specific Mac model – including the hardware year/sub-year – is what determines eligibility for macOS upgrades.

The OP should also do the same, seeing as how he apparently posted a screenshot of that dialog that included a serial number – a screenshot that a Moderator subsequently deleted. We don't need the serial number – but we do need the model and hardware year information that got removed along with the screenshot.

There is no such thing as macOS 11.15.7. According to MacTracker and to Apple's description in the App Store, macOS 11.7.10 is the latest release of macOS 11 (Big Sur).

Whether you can update to Big Sur (or beyond) will depend on the model and hardware model year of your Mac. Some vendors like Microsoft and Adobe have a policy of only supporting the last three major versions of macOS, and if you want to run their applications, you may need to upgrade past Big Sur (if you can).

If your Mac is compatible with something newer than Catalina, back up your system, and see:

Please follow the steps in Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support.

By the way, if you have any third party antivirus, cleaning, security, VPN, or other types of maintenance apps installed that is likely your problem. The solution is to locate the developers uninstall instructions and then uninstall the app(s) and then restart in Safe Mode and then update Mac OS. All of these types of apps are 100% garbage and do nothing to help Mac OS and only create issues. NEVER EVER install these on a Mac.
