My iPhone is talking to me…can’t shut it off!

All of a sudden, my iPhone started reading everything on webpages or anything on the screen. I cannot get it to stop. I did a search on the Internet, and the articles I found mention Voiceover, so I went to the settings on my phone… VoiceOver is turned off. I even turned VoiceOver on, then turned it off again.

The only articles I can find talk about older iPhones with a home button and pressing the home button three times, but I have a 12 Pro Max, and there is no home button.

How do I get my phone to stop talking to me? How did I turn this on in the first place? It is driving me nuts.

You mentioned VoiceOver is off, what about Spoken Content? Go to Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content and make sure Speak Selection and Speak Screen are shut off as well.

I think that might be it. I was doing something and holding my phone against my chest (scoop neck shirt) with my chin. It might have mistaken it for a swipe with two fingers. It was a long web page, so as I switched to other apps, it kept reading and wouldn’t stop. It possibly stopped when it got to the end of the long page. I could not figure out a way to stop it. I wonder if two finger stop would do it?

I did also restart the phone, and it didn’t do it after the restart.

Thanks, everyone!
