Using my mac book air my non apple contacts are coming up red and I can't send them a text from my computer
Anybody know why I can't send text messages from my Mac book air to non apple contacts?

Because Mac isn't like an iphone were you can just send SMS.
You need to have this set up Forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your Mac or iPad - Apple Support
