I have a MacBook Pro using Ventura all updated. Spotlight search works but Finder folder search does not-will only search the entire computer not the selected folder. Must be new to this operating system, new MacBook used migration assist to send al files over. Files look fine and spotlight works. tried the reindexing and relaunch of finder. Thanks

The problem for me is that even when I search the current folder, I get zero results every time, even if I can see the actual file in the folder before searching. The only way I can find anything is to search the whole computer and then sort/filter the list - not ideal!
This started working for me again, without doing anything ... now when I click the specific folder for searches, I get results. righted itself somehow!
Same problem. Find searches whole Mac but when I choose the folder nothing is found! Brand new silicon iMac. It worked fine with all my older Macs. Frustrating.

I'm having the same problem in Sonoma when searching for files on an external hard drive. I dragged the file to my desktop and search found it right away.
This worked for me.
The 3rd rep approached worked perfectly for me, even without the restart operation.

Rebuilding the spotlight index does not work for some people. The instructions you copied and posted I’ve been linked to several times already.

This happens only in external usb drives.
Run this command in terminal
sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/Your_external_drive
How do you "search the whole computer"?
I already have "Search: This Mac" selected, but it still shows no results.
check out the YouTube a couple of posts up. Don't get into anything super technical.
Did you use disc first aid to repair the disk? That helped me. Then add it and take it out again method. I found that my computer forgets it and I have to do it again and again.
