Very Strange Safari Crash

Every time I type "nra l" into Safari's (v.16.4 (18615.1.26.110.1)) address bar it crashes and I get the "unexpected" notification. Tried it and rebooted Safari several times without success; rebooted the machine and tried again a few times with same result. I can type other queries into the address bar with no problem. I was trying to find a picture of the NRA headquarters lobby in Northern Virginia. Have I inadvertently uncovered a secret crash code or does Safari not like the NRA? :-)

Well, you've discovered something. lol

I see the same thing, also in Safari Technology Preview. You can type "nra" but not "nra l". Doesn't happen in Monterey. Did you click "Report" when it crashes?

FWIW, if you open google.com and type "nra l" into the search field instead of the url field, Safari won't crash.

Very strange. 😎

FWIW, if you disable Safari > Settings > Search > Include Safari Suggestions, Safari no longer crashes. 😎

Include search engine suggestions has to be enabled. Then you can enable or disable Safari suggestions separately.

Technically, it works for me, too. I just couldn't enable that setting to make it broken.

I figured there must be a global setting somewhere, so I checked Siri Suggestions & Spotlight. I have Siri suggestions disabled for Safari.

If I enable them, the checkbox becomes active.

It's a lower case L (l). My Safari's default search engine is Google, but there's no problem when I go to Google's website and search from there; it's only when I type it into the address bar. Hmm, curiouser and curiouser. Thanks for your efforts on my (and it appears dialabrain's) behalf.
