Cannot Install Purchased Custom Ringtone

Admittedly a very minor issue in the scheme of things, but here goes:

  • iOS 16.4.1 (a)
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • I bought a custom ringtone in the app.
  • Navigate to Contacts>Name>Edit>Ringtone and look under "RINGTONES" and it doesn't show up.
  • Yet it shows up under Store>Tone Store>...>Tones>...>Purchased>Music>Recent Purchases
  • When I go to Contacts>Name>Edit>Ringtone>Store>Download All Purchased Tones, I just get this screen "Checking for Downloads" that lasts for at least 1/2 an hour:

I know it's not World Peace nor a cure for cancer :) but does anyone have any ideas how to assign a custom purchased ringtone?

Many thanks!

Checking for Downloads - Shows a Spinning Wheel means you are not connected to the internet.

Connecting to Wifi is the first part and then getting connected to the Internet is the second

  1. If you connect to Wifi, doesn't necessarily mean you are connected to the internet. If you are not connected to wifi could be a problem with iPhone settings or Router/Modem Settings
  2. If you are not connected to the internet is the sole issue of Router / Modem Settings. Contact your ISP immediately

Check your WiFi Router / Modem for --> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points ...

For your Internet connection.

  • Over Cellular: contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider). The agency who issued the SIM to you
  • Over WiFI: Contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider), the agency who provided the Internet Service on your Modem/Router to you

Spent over an hour with Apple Support; the rep couldn't help and was more confused/befuddled than I am, a not-too-easy feat!

Anyways, found this superb article and got the ringtone installed. Not sure why there was a glitch in the Apple software, but regardless this well-written piece found a workaround so all is good.
