Can’t handoff to iPad

Devices:

iPad 9th gen

iPhone 13 Pro

I can handoff from my iPad to my iPhone but not the other way around. The handoff icon simply doesn’t show up in the dock in the app switcher.

Yes, both are on the latest software.

Disable Handoff on both devices:

Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff > Handoff - set to OFF

Close the settings App - then force-restart both the iPad and iPhone:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

For iPhone, the process is similar:

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

After restarting both devices, re-enable Handoff on both devices. A further restart may be beneficial.

I know I am responding to this after a year but I just realized it wasn't working for me today and was looking up for the solution.

I suspected it was something to do with doc on my iPad but didn't think "show suggested app" would solve the problem so I ignored until I saw your comment and it was indeed conflicted by it. After confirming the cause, I turned it off again since I don't want suggested apps showing up on my doc as well, but for some reason it left the Handoff function on. Now my "suggested apps" is turned off but handoff is working! I just wanted to share the discovery in case you have still have this issue.

Cheers

That’s odd. Even with Show Suggested and Recent Apps Dock disabled in iPad settings, handoff Apps should still appear at the right of your dock.

Having just tested this with iPad and iPhone updated to iOS/iPadOS 16.4.1(a), I can confirm that handoff still works as advertised, regardless of your Home Screen/Dock settings.

Ensure that both of your devices have been fully updated - and perform a forced restart of both devices as previously directed.
