Phone number format

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We'll be happy to assist. The phone number format used for your contacts is dependent on the language and region you have selected for your iPhone.

To clarify, what do you have selected currently? If set to the US, it would be normal to not see this particular format being used, however if located in another country where this format is primarily used, make sure your language and region settings are set correctly.

Additionally, on iCloud.com, you can use these steps:

1. Click the Action pop-up menu  in the sidebar, then choose Preferences.
2. Choose a country from the Address Layout menu.
3. To have Contacts automatically add hyphens and other symbols in phone numbers, select “Automatically format phone numbers.” If you want to be able to enter phone numbers in more than one format, don’t select this option.
4. Click Save.

This should help ensure that in both locations you're seeing the right format.
