Mute-button

When I use my mute button, my phone still maken sound. What do I Need to do to make the Button work again?

mute button unresponsive I just got a new iPhone sc 3rd generation. With my old phone, I could press the mute button and it would stop ringing immediately. This feature is unresponsive on the new one. I have to hold it down really hard for several seconds to get it to eventually stop. Is there a way to get it to respond better?
