Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge Storage Usage Issue

Here's an issue I could not find here as I've experienced it. So I figured I'll post what I tried to resolve the issue I had that happened twice! A week ago I was forced to install Microsoft Edge to be able to work with an Application called Clipchamp. Clipchamp is a Microsoft video editing application. When I tried to run the Clipchamp app. A message stated that Microsoft Edge was required.

The program worked and I was able to continued editing videos I've started on a PC from my Mac. Clipchamp app is as basic as video editing can get. Plus, it doesn't actually require the use of physical storage. Clipchamp uses cloud storage. Yet, it doesn't seem to be tied to OneDrive!

A few days later I received a low storage message. After checking my M1 Mac mini's storage details. I did noticed that my physical storage was being taking up by Applications. Strange since I didn't think I had that many installed. So I uninstalled many of them to free up storage.

Nothing I was doing seem to touch the huge chunk of storage claimed to be taken up by my applications. Confused by this, I decided to check for answers online. I managed to learn about a hidden files in the Users Library folder called Containers. There I found the container for Microsoft Edge and it was taking well over 102+ GB!

Seeing this huge amount of data being stored in the Containers folder. I decided to uninstall Microsoft Edge. But, the container remained. So, I tried restarting the Mac and see if that would fix the storage. It did not, so I deleted the Edge container. That solved the storage issue the moment I emptied the trash!

I still had content I needed to have completed. So, I tried accessing Clipchamp.com from the Safari browser. Instantly the webpage loaded a message about the need for either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. I installed Google Chrome and all was well accessing Clipchamp.com. Two days later I received the same low storage message.

This time more than 150GB of storage was taken up! Just like before, deleting Chrome alone did nothing to solve the storage issue. I had to delete the Google Chrome container in order to free up the storage that was taken. This Container thing I never had to touch before. Grant, I use to factory wipe the Mac whenever storage became an issue in the past.

I've used both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome on other Macs I've had previously. This is the first time I had to unhide hidden folders in order to delete content that wasn't removed automatically by uninstalling them! Is this new or something that has always been needed? Or is this some type of bug in macOS 13.3.1?
