how to verify serial number of ipad i bought

I asked my neighbor's friend who lives in US to purchase ipad for me, and bring it when they visit India.

Is there a way to verify that I received the same device which was dispatched by Apple and not refurbished or used?

In other words how to make sure that device was not switched by my neighbor's friend.?

When purchased from Apple, the purchaser will receive a printed invoice with the device serial number and description. The invoice will state if the device is renewed/refurbished. As you will presumably receive this invoice along the with iPad that was purchased by your friend’s neighbour, you can easily verify that you have received the iPad that was purchased.

If not purchased directly from Apple, either a physical store or the online Apple Store, you might not have similar confidence in the paperwork being so easy to marry with the device.

Assuming that you trust your friend - and your friend trusts his neighbour - you would hope to have little or no cause for concern. Either way, being so remote from the purchasing process - with no opportunity for return - what can you hope to achieve in questioning the provenance of the purchase made via a friend?

Verify if this is a Genuine Device:

One important thing it seems to perform here, is to confirm that the iPhone is genuine. Here is how to do so:

  1. Obtain the Serial Number: Find the Serial Number or IMEI on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
  2. Enter the Serial Number here: Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support
  3. View the Results: If all shows up as an iPhone, then you have a genuine iPad, and nothing was switched.. If not, then it is fake, and you should log ut of iCloud on it, and return this to the your neighbor.
