Outlook 2016 on windows 10 - icloud issues

i have been using icloud for windows on my PC for a while now - and no real issues

but then i started noticing that items i entered in the icloud calendar on my iphone were not showing up in my outlook calendar - and vice-versa

i also started getting error messages when trying to edit or delete icloud calendar entries on the PC - and it simply would not let me delete them - "you do not have access to this folder" type messages

i read on here that some people had had success by closing outlook then uninstalling an re-installing icloud control panel

i tried this - and it seemed to re-install OK - but when i tried to switch on synch calendar in the icloud control panel i got an error message saying it did not in fact install correctly and i needed to go to the PC settings and repair the icloud app

there were actually 2 new Icloud apps installed

"icloud" and "icloud for outlook"

i tried repairing each in turn - which both yielded a tick mark - as if they did something useful - but i still get the same error message.

i tried uninstalling icloud again - restarting teh machine - then re-installing icloud - but exactly the same issue occurred

the Microsoft store says icloud is compatible with

OS: Windows 10 version 18362.145 or higher

Architecture: x64

my PC is

windows 10 pro version 19045.2965

x64

so meets the requirements

i really only need it for synching the icloud calendars with outlook

any help would be appreciated

just to clarify - i can sign in to the icloud control panel - and i can acces files and photos via icloud drive on my pc

so it just seems to be the icloud calendar visibility in outlook that is not functioning.

this is the error message that i get each time i try to enable the calendar and contacts option in the icloud control panel

following the instructions in the dialog box to repair - does not help.

i just get the same error message afterwards - i have tried several times.

i suspect i will not be the only one experiencing this

can anyone confirm they have the same - or offer suggestions for a fix?
