Headline to span 2 columns and use as a table of contents entry?

Is there any way to create a headline that spans 2 columns in word processing mode, besides inserting a text box? When I add a headline an inserted text box, it doesn't appear in the automatic table of contents. Any work-arounds?

Too achieve the result in my previous post, I had the headline text as a single paragraph. A second paragraph followed it. Once I had applied the heading paragraph style to the first paragraph, I then selected all of the body text for the second paragraph, and then I chose the Layout tab, set my 2 columns on that selected paragraph text, and arrived at what you see above.

Thanks for your help.

I've tried that. I type the headline, hit return, then select the headline and apply the desired style. Then to start the 2 column body, I go to layout and switch to 2 columns, it switches the headline and the body to two column. What am I doing wrong?

NEVER MIND. I experimented and discovered that all I have to do is start typing the body, then select what I've typed and THEN go to layout and change to 2 columns.

Simple when you know that one itty bitty thing. This will make my life so much easier! Thank you!
