I'm trying to add my apple iphone contact list info into my MS Outlook

I'm trying to add my apple iphone contact list info into my MS Outlook (2021) - currently empty of contacts. I have icloud for windows running on my PC. There is no option for Contacts there. I've searched, and it appears I theoretically need an Apple email id to maybe add the option for Contacts/Calendar to appear. Instructions seem to say that my apple id (for purposes here, it will be called myname.@something.net) needs to be created as an @icloud.net id. Since it doesn't appear under iphone settings/name, I supposedly HAVE one already. I've tried adding myname.@icloud.net as an email id under Outlook, but it won't accept it, or at least not with my apple password.

Where are your current Contacts behind hosted? Locally, at Apple with some Apple ID, or elsewhere?

If you have user@example.net as your Apple ID using some other mail-hosting provider and not an iCloud email address hosted at Apple, then there is no iCloud email address.

In general, your Apple ID credentials are your user@example.net with your password.

Here is how to configure your Apple Contacts and related information from Microsoft Outlook mail client on Microsoft Windows:

Set up iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendar in Outlook on your Windows computer - Apple Support

Per that, you need an iCloud email address, and you don't have one here. (Before getting started, make sure you’ve set up an @icloud.com email address) You'll need to use a CalDAV server or some other contacts server info wherever you're hosting your mail, or set up your contacts on an Apple ID with iCloud storage.

PS: Something·net is a real and registered domain. It exists, and is in use. For examples and documentation, and for postings such as this, the domains example.com, example.net, and example.org are available.

Working thru the list of things to do, I get to this point via Set up iCloud Mail on all your devices - Apple Support

Set up iCloud Mail on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
  2. If you want to send and receive iCloud Mail on your device, do one of the following:
    • iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or later: Tap Mail, then turn on Use on this [device].

There IS NO "Mail" that I can Tap. Maybe I need to go to the Apple Store and load a Mail App?

If you don't have an iCloud.com (or MobileMe or .Mac) email address and its associated mail, you can either move your mail hosting and the rest to Apple by modifying the Apple ID, or can create a wholly new Apple ID and move your content to that. Moving your content to a new Apple ID is not a small project. You will not be able to migrate purchases and subscriptions.

Or much closer to what you want to do, aim Outlook at whatever host is hosting your Contacts info.

That's not Apple.

It's almost certainly the provider where you are hosting your not-iCloud mail from your Apple ID.

Fro what you've posted, and I could well be confused, but this all appears to be a question about using Windows tools with some other not-Apple hosting provider, and not anything associated with Apple, other than that your Apple devices are also referencing a not-Apple hosting provider.

I don't understand. I have a local provider for my internet and that's how I send e-mails - from my Windows PC. I also have a g-mail account where, if I absolutely must send an e-mail from my iphone, then I use that. I do not want to get e-mails on my phone (I get about 75 emails a day on my pc, and I don't want them on my phone.) I only "want" an iphone e-mail id so that I can use the use the Contacts app on my phone to sync its data with my currently empty address book on my Microsoft PC's 2021 Outlook. The only reason I am attempting to create .icloud.com e-mail id is in furtherance of that purpose. I do not expect to use a .icloud.com address for any other purpose. Is there some iphone mail app or service that I must subscribe to in order to accomplish this purpose? Thanks.

Re-read what I posted. ISP. Not address.

Um.... no. I'm not going to post my email address out here in the clear. I get enough spam as it is.

I had asked for the name of the ISP, and not for your email address. That so I could look up ISP-specific details, such as whether the ISP was running CalDAV and CardDAV servers for calendar and contact info.

But I'm done here, and am unfollowing this thread. I wish you well with this.

It would be immediately obvious to me what my e-mail address was if I did that.

Why? There is no way you would know my email address if I said it was Gmail. Which it is. Now that you've said that, though, people might guess you use the first part of your email address as your username. But, that's something no one would have known otherwise.

I'm going to follow MrHoffman's example.

Best of luck.
