What is your model Apple TV box?

Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

Find your Apple TV model number - Apple Support


  1. In what country or country-like region are you setting this up? Is the Apple ID account set for the same country?
  2. Connect to a home network with both bands (2.4 and 5 GHz) combined as one logical network. Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support
  3. Did you set it up with the same Apple ID account as your iPhone and Apple Watch?
  4. Have you tried (re)setting your Home app on your iPhone or iPad. That made it work for some other users.

If this Apple TV box had a previous user, and has not been reset yet, then please reset your Apple TV to its factory settings.

I'd give up. The device is nice, but Apple TV programming is an absolute joke! If you try to duplicate a library the "program" changes all the file types from whatever you entered them as, to "Home Video." It would be so easy to fix, but Apple doesn't care. The program also randomly loses information stored in the "Description" field, This one cost me dozens of hours. My solution was to switch to "Subler" for the metadata situation. It's been working nicely for me for weeks. I also switched to "QuickTime Player" to play the files, because QTP has Air Play capability which many non Apple programs do not.
