Import "Copy to Library" doesn't work?

When I select "Copy to Library" during an import, everything seems to work fine... but then I right click on the media in my Event section and choose "Reveal in Finder" and it takes me back to the original source location, which happens to be either an external drive or someplace else on my network in most cases.

To further prove that the Event section is pointing to the original location (and not the Library location), if I disconnect my network connection or external drive (the source location), the media then can't be found.

What am I doing wrong here? Do I need to somehow manually point the event to the Library copy of the media?

You can tell whether the clip has been imported or not by looking at the bottom left corner of it in the Browser.

You will see a small circle that forms a pie chart with the white section showing how much has been imported. The Clip 18 is about one third done where as Clip 15 has not started.

Here Clip 18 has finished and the circle has disappeared whilst Clip 15 is still only one third the way through.

You can also see a "total" import pie chart on the top left of the FCPX window.

For free space on the MBP, the OS and FCP need a *minimum* of 10% of the total drive size, so a 1TB drive will need at least 100GB free. Do you have that?

What is the NAS and how are you mounting it? SMB?

Do you have any folders on your MBP Desktop or in the vicinity of the problem library that could be confused as a camera card? Named something like DCIM or private?

As Tom suggested, an Etrecheck report would help us help you.

Update: if I move the library to my attached storage, and repeat the process, the result is that everything works as expected. "Reveal in finder" shows the media is correctly pointing to the files within the library.

At first I thought that the original attempt may have been failing because I was out of disk space on my Macbook Pro's local disk, but I have plenty of space (10X the file sizes I'm trying to import). So it's not that.

It's clear that there's something wrong with the library on my local disk, but FCPX is doing an awful job of reporting the issue.

Yes, I've been waiting for the copy to complete. And have verified that it's copied successfully by opening the Library (show package contents -> open the event folder -> open original media).

However, the files are copied into the library with an appended "_Conflict" to them. FCPX's UI gives no errors, and there are no log files adjacent to these files. But I feel the _Conflict tag is a pretty big clue. Anyone know what this is trying to tell me? The files copied in the library play back fine.

One file is stored on an attached drive. The other is over the network. Both are exhibiting this issue. All media is being imported via the import window with "Copy to Library" selected. "Create Optimized Media" and "Create Proxy Media" are both disabled. And as I said in the other reply, I have verified that it's copied successfully by opening the Library (show package contents -> open the event folder -> open original media), but the files are landing there with a _Conflict tag in the filename, which I think is a major clue (but I don't know what the suspected conflict is).

What kind of network are you walking about? Local network? Cloud network? Please post screenshots of what you're seeing in the library where the clips are located. Can you answer the questions about the storage location and drives or better post an EtreCheck report https://etrecheck.com giving the application Full Disk Access in Privacy & Security System Settings. Copy the report and use the Add Text button to paste the result into reply box.
