Why is my self-signed root certificate “rootca” considered an intermediate certificate authority?

Because it's self-signed - IE you signed/authorised it. In other words there are no authoritative certificate servers further upstream that's recognised as such that can vouch its authenticity.


A rather rough example but here goes: you declare to the world that you're Ghengis Khan but if no-one else can verify that you are who you say you are then it's just you and how can everyone else believe what you're saying?
